Choices

I was really hoping to have at least the wall to my new room put up already and the electrician scheduled. But, it has not happened so I have two choices--Choice #1: get totally overwhelmed and shut down or Choice #2: think of plan B.

I was ready to choose #1. I don't really handle stress very well and this was becoming stressful--I don't have a garage door, I don't know when the wall will be put up and I wanted to start school in September. I could feel my blood pressure rising just thinking about it.

You know, I was getting all stressed and everything when I should have been seeking the peace and council of God. When I do that He helps me think so much clearer and see the big picture. When I finally did, He gave me such a peace. The garage will get done and my kids will be taught. Will it be on my time frame -- no, but that is ok. This is a wonderful teaching opportunity for my girls. I want to teach them how to handle situations in life. This is one of those times where I can show the girls through my example that even when things are not going as planned, everything will still be ok. God is in control. I need to show them that I trust God in ALL things--big and small. You know I find it so much easier to trust God on the big things--it is the small things that I have trouble with.

God has also blessed with a wonderful Mom that I can talk to and bounce ideas off of. Through talking, we came up with Plan B.

I emptied some shelves and am organizing my stuff on it and could be ready to start school 3 weeks early on August 10 but the girls are attending a VBS and so I will wait to start on August 17 (still earlier than my original September start!) God is so good! I am going to be using a modified workbox system. I will let you know how it goes.

If we can not get someone to do the wall, my Mom and I decided that we could do most of it ourselves. I don't know if I can handle an impact hammer to attach the board to the cement. But, I might be finding out soon. :-)

Home Improvement

Our yard sale is finally over and all the left over stuff has been taken away by the Vietnam Vets of America for their thrift store.

I am still finding stuff I want to get out of my house, I will just donate. I do NOT want to do another yard sale. I really do not like yard sales. I was selling stuff for a quarter (yes, most of the stuff was 25 cents!) and people still wanted to pay less. I know the economy is bad, but I was selling designer clothes for a quarter! Well, enough about that.

The next phase--close in the garage. I am just waiting for my goto guy to be available to put up a wall. I have already moved the furniture and rearranged it many times -- in my mind. I can not wait to actually move it!

At times, this has been kind of difficult because my husband shuts down when it comes to big projects. He is fully supportive of closing in the garage. He just gets totally overwhelmed when it comes to big projects. Am I overstepping my bounds by starting the process? I have been waiting for almost a year for the garage to be done. Something always came up to push it back. I really want to have the school room ready for school in September.

When I am done with the garage--the next room will be the kitchen and the dining room, then Angel's room . . . then our room . . .

Does it ever end?

My goals for June . . .

  1. I want to finish my lesson plans for next year (at least, for the subjects that I have books for.)
  2. Sort clothes and stuff for a yard sale that I am going to have July 17 and 18.
  3. I would like to get my garage cleaned out and either throw away or put stuff in the aforesaid yard sale.
  4. Prepare crafts for Vacation Bible School.

Life and the Shed

Oh my. It has been almost a month since my last blog. We have been very busy. Between homeschooling and trying to get my garage ready to close in, I have not had anytime to blog. In the next few days, I will be trying to catch up.

I have pictures of the girls making bread and of them sewing their first quilt block. Hope to get them posted soon. Also a couple of lapbooks have been completed that I need to show you guys. And my little Donna has been taking swimming lessons. She is having so much fun.

As for the shed, I have been cleaning it and the garage. So far, we have had over 20 bags of garbage, one truckload of hazardous waste (paint cans, pool supplies, etc) and at least 10 bags of donate.

This past weekend, we resided the shed. I must remember, if you think it will take a day to complete--it will take three.

This is some of the wood that was on the shed. It has a lot of water damage from the wood touching the ground. To eliminate that problem, we put flashing at the bottom of the shed and then will caulk it on the inside to seal it.

Mom and I started working on the shed on Friday. We put the door up on Monday. I think Mom and I did a pretty good job on the door. It should look good, it took us around 6 hours to construct and hang.
THANK YOU MOM FOR ALL YOUR HELP!

THANK YOU SAM AND PEGGY!
I think Mom and I would still be working on the walls if it weren't for their help. I still have some of the little stuff to do--caulk, trim and attach a latch on the door. But that will be easy compared to what I have been doing.
Hope to have pictures of a finished garage soon!!

This is the shed without the doors.

Here is a view of the inside of the shed and the inside of the door. The great part is the cost. It just cost me 3 days of work (but I got to spend it working with my Mom--a plus!) and less that $375. Try to buy a 8x12 wooden shed for that price!!
